A New Beginning

Kala Tarang has been based in Singapore ever since its inception in 2008. Through its exhibitions, talks, hands-on workshops, Kala Tarang brought Indian handicrafts to eager patrons in Singapore for more than a decade. And then life took a turn. 2020 brought Covid and we could not have any exhibition for more than years. This extraordinary time challenged most of us to try new things and innovate and we took baby steps with online sales by selling online through our website and social media and our supporters responded with enthusiasm.

As Covid was becoming manageable, life took another turn — this time a little more personal. I moved to California, USA with my family in May 2022. Kala Tarang had to lie low for some time while I figured my way around a new country. It has been a fun adventure so far and now I am getting ready to start my Kala Tarang journey in US with a craft exhibition and talk (on Indian textiles) in Palo Alto, California in September 2024.

There is loads to be done before the exhibition and I seek your patience while we sort things at our end. Most of our website will be updated in the last quarter of 2024 as we prioritise getting things ready for the exhibition for now.

We believe that there is a joy of touching and feeling handcrafted items which cannot be replicated with online experiences. We have also missed the wonderful little chats with craft lovers about the unique pieces on display in our exhibitions. So if you live in and around Palo Alto (or even a little farther), we do hope you are able to make it to our next exhibition!

See you soon!

PS: We will also be planning exhibitions in Singapore again!
